Why Root?
Hi there, my name is Sarah Eby. I'm a Physiotherapist, Yoga Instructor and the owner of Root Physiotherapy.
After years of studying and working in Toronto, treating a wide variety of patients in busy downtown clinics, I decided it was time for a change. Time to come back to my roots in Waterloo county, and a less hectic pace of life away from the big city.
My vision: to create a practice where people receive quality, one-on-one care from a skilled Physiotherapist who has your best interests at heart.
My mission: to get to the root cause of your issues so you can move well and be well for years to come.

I care about getting you better and helping you feel your best!
With every patient, I strive to get to the root of your issue, to resolve it efficiently, and to prevent you from suffering the same issue again in the future.
I am a Physiotherapist, a Yoga Instructor, Pilates Instructor and a life-long learner. I am passionate about understanding how the body works in all its complexity, and believe in treating the body as a whole. I took my first yoga class in 2013 to try a new "workout", and was soon hooked because of all the other benefits yoga offers – the mind body connection can be a powerful tool to promote healing. In 2018, I took my first Pilates class, as a fun thing to do with my Pilates-loving parents and it added the missing piece to my movement practice. Whether you are into yoga or pilates, or have never tried either one, I am passionate about using movement to help you move well, be well and age well.
I have a thirst for knowledge and constantly work at improving my physiotherapy expertise. After completing a Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo (2006) and a Master of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto (2009), I went on to complete a Master of Clinical Science, from Western University in 2015, becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). Prior to that, I completed a yearlong course titled the “Integrated Systems Model”, an approach that treats the body as a whole and looks at how areas far from your site of injury or pain can impact your recovery. I have also completed courses in acupuncture, Integrated Dry Needling (CIDN), and the McKenzie Method, a system of diagnosis and treatment that emphasizes patient empowerment and self-treatment.
Not only do I love my rewarding clinical work and direct patient care, I also truly enjoy teaching. Since becoming a physiotherapist, I have filled numerous teaching and mentoring roles for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and at the University of Toronto in the Master of Science in Physiotherapy Program, where I was once a student.
I aim to live an active lifestyle, moving and getting outdoors as often as possible. I love to cook and eat whole nutritious food, and connecting with family and friends is a priority. My current motto is “move, nature, nourish, sleep, connect” and so far it is serving me well!
